little sparrow

I’m a little sparrow who lives inside your hedge
We eat the seeds you leave us despite the pigeons from the gutter’s edge
We’re glad you built us that wooden house with webbing round the side
Now we can eat the seeds in peace and from the pigeons hide
In spring we lay our eggs in nests of twigs and straw
You’d better leave some extra seeds or else you’l get what for
We’re glad you bought us that stone bath with nice clean water too
You know it does’nt taste the same when it’s full of sparrows poo
We’re sorry if we wake you up when we sing at the crack of dawn
But because of you and others too we’re so glad that we were born.
