All gather round said the sargeant
For a truth he was about to reveal
And as he leaned forward confidentialy
Said “the germans are afraid of cold steel “
Then we stood there and looked at each other
And shuffled our feet on the ground
While he paused with the air of importance
Of a man who had said something profound
While sitting a half an hour later
Having what passed for a meal
One lad said “ though I’m not a german
I’m damned if I’m keen on cold steel”.
